Volunteer Poetry and Book Corner Lead

Hilary’s Hut is a free over 45’s social meet up group to combat loneliness in the community and provide an information and friendship hub. 

We meet the third Wednesday of every month at Christ Church Hall, opposite Matthew Arnold School in Staines 2-4pm. 

We are looking for volunteers to run a poetry or book club, which will meet at Hilary’s Hut monthly. Volunteer led discussion about a book or poem chosen at the previous meeting.

Volunteers will Suggest books or poems to be discussed and go with the consensus chosen by Members of the Corner. 

Post about the chosen monthly book or poem on our FB Page to encourage and support members join in (help provided here if needed). 

Research what books or poems Members might like to read about. There is freedom to develop your area. 

Research any Special Guests or local authors who might like to visit the Group and propose them at the Volunteer Meetings for discussion. 

Books must be available to borrow from the library. Poems can be photocopied and provided by the Group Leader.

What skills do I need?

This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys reading and ideally has a literary background but a love of literature and discussing literature is a must.

Someone who is supportive, patient and can lead and embrace discussion on various viewpoints. 

It is Important to maintain the confidentiality of members details and discussion of the group.   

Actively contribute to Volunteer Meetings. 

Support G2GL’s aims and willingness to work towards making the Corner a positive all-inclusive place to be. 

A DBS or Volunteer Declaration will be required for this role.
