Coffee Shop Helpers

We are a volunteer led charity, raising money for East Surrey Hospital from the profits of our Coffeeshop at the hospital’s east entrance. We sell hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, snacks, toiletries and stationery at a fair price. In 2025 we raised over £115,000 and awarded £100,000 in grants to departments across the hospital.

We are always on the look out for new volunteers to join our friendly team, we currently have various shifts available throughout the week, ranging from 1-2 hours up to three and a half hours each.

New volunteers be given a four-week trial period with on-site training to cover all aspects of retail work: filling shelves, checking sell-by dates, stock rotation, dispensing hot drinks, serving customers on an EPOS (scanning till), tidying and cleaning shelves, cleaning up at the end of the day. We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 5 hours per month over for at least 6 months, and to share the tasks with the other volunteers on duty. You will need to be fairly fit, friendly, approachable and able to put people at ease.

We are a sociable crowd and hold regular coffee mornings for our volunteers in the cafes of Redhill, Reigate & Horley.

Volunteer Role:

• Interact with staff, patients and visitors
• Serve hot and cold drinks and snacks
• Take payments (card/cash)
• General tidying and cleaning tasks
• Ensure everywhere is stocked up and clean

What skills do I need?

Good communication, a friendly, patient and helpful attitude. 

Team player

The service counter has limited space so volunteers need to be able to stand for the length of the shift.
