About the Library of Things

The Library of Things (LoT) is a community-led initiative that allows people to borrow useful items instead of buying them—helping to reduce waste, promote sustainability, and make everyday life more affordable. This project is run entirely by volunteers and relies on community support.

We are looking for a Publicity & Community Engagement Volunteer to help spread the word about the Epsom and Ewell Climate Action Network and it's new Library of Things to build community connections and increase awareness of our initiative. If you enjoy social media, writing, public outreach, or event planning, this role is perfect for you!

Role Overview

As Publicity & Community Engagement Volunteer, you will play a key role in promoting the Library of Things, ensuring that more people know about the service and how they can benefit from it. This role involves managing social media, writing promotional materials, reaching out to local organisations, and supporting community events.

This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in marketing, PR, and community engagement while supporting a project that benefits the local community.

Key Responsibilities

· Promote the Library of Things through social media, newsletters, and community networks.

· Create engaging content (posts, blogs, videos) to raise awareness of the project.

· Write and distribute press releases to local media outlets.

· Engage with local organisations, businesses, and groups to build partnerships and increase visibility.

· Help organise and promote community events related to the Library of Things.

· Assist in developing promotional materials, including posters, leaflets, and digital content.

What skills do I need?

Skills & Experience (Desirable but Not Essential)

No formal qualifications are required, but the following skills would be beneficial:

· Experience or interest in marketing, PR, or social media.

· Strong writing and communication skills.

· Confidence in engaging with the public and community groups.

· Basic graphic design or video editing skills (Canva, Photoshop, or similar) would be a plus.

· Passion for sustainability and community projects.

Availability Details

Time Commitment & Support · This is a flexible volunteer role, and we appreciate any time you can give. · Ideally, we are looking for someone who can commit 2–4 hours per week. · Our Climate Action Network Team will provide full support and guidance—you’ll be joining a welcoming and collaborative team who want to make a difference in their local community William Ward (lead Trustee)
