Dog Rangers love their regular walks, enjoy sharing their exemplary dog walking behaviour and encouraging others to practice responsible dog walking. They provide an important link between Surrey Landscapes and the dog walking community.

What's involved?

  • Walking your regular routes around Runnymede & Ankerwycke, being a visible presence of best practice in dog walking on National Trust sites.
  • Engaging with other dog walkers in a friendly, chatty manner, and encouraging responsible dog walking whilst educating dog walkers on National Trust’s Canine Code.
  • Offering and handing out poop bags and signposting dog walkers to the location of the nearest waste bin/s and water bowls.
  • Recommending and encouraging the use of leads, especially around livestock, wildlife and during bird nesting season.
  • Learning about walks around the site, including suitability and accessibility and helping to orientate visitors.
  • Bringing concerns or comments from the dog walking community to the attention of the property team as well as helping dog walkers feel part of the Surrey Landscapes community and communicate any upcoming news and information that may be of interest to them.

What skills do I need?

  • Already regularly walking your dog/s at Runnymede or Ankerwycke.
  • A responsible dog owner who enjoys walking their dog in the open countryside.
  • Happy and confident speaking with other people in an enthusiastic and friendly manner.
  • Passionate about dogs, dog walking and the great outdoors.
  • Keen to walk with others, whether it’s staff, other volunteers, or visitors.
