Member of Independent Monitoring Board at HM Prison Send (CSVA)

You’ll work as part of a team of IMB volunteers, who are the eyes and ears of the public, appointed by ministers to perform a vital task: independent monitoring of prisons. You’ll report on whether prisoners are being treated fairly and humanely and whether they’re being given the support they need to turn their lives around. This can make a huge diference those held.

You’ll have full access to the prison to monitor the day-to-day life of those held there. You could be talking to a prisoner who’s worried or vulnerable, who isn’t able to access the support they need, or who needs help to sort out some practical problems.

What skills do I need?

As long as you’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and are over 18, we welcome your application. We’re keen to encourage members from every walk of life and all backgrounds. You’ll normally need to live within a 45 minute journey of the prison, although this could be more in certain areas.

You don't need any qualifications; your values are more important. You’ll receive training for the role and a mentor who will support you throughout your professional development.
