Online Aphasia Group Volunteer

Dyscover provides long term support, encouragement and opportunity to people with aphasia, a communication disorder often brought on by a stroke.

Volunteers play a vital role at Dyscover by being involved in our conversation support groups and courses (which are run by speech and language therapists).

Our weekly groups are designed to increase the member's confidence, self-esteem and maximise their communication abilities. In addition to our face-to-face weekly groups, we now offer groups online using Zoom which have proved very popular.

We are now looking for additional volunteers to help with these. You would be part of a happy, positive and friendly weekly online group led by a Speech and Language Therapist, working alongside other volunteers.

You would see people with aphasia really benefit from your help. We offer initial and ongoing training. The role is 2 hours per week on a Tuesday - morning or afternoon and a Thursday morning.

What skills do I need?

A confident, personable and friendly manner Good communication and listening skills, patience and ability show empathy.

Good IT skills Experience using Zoom Experience of using break out rooms and screen sharing Happy to share your skills and interests
