The Dorking Bandstand Project is a brand new community project planned for the centre of Dorking.

The project has three aims:

- to provide a physical memorial to those who suffered during the Pandemic

- to act as a focus to commemorate the work of NHS staff; key workers; volunteers and others who helped us through the pandemic

- to provide a much needed permanent outdoor performance site in the centre of Dorking

We intend the bandstand to be a focus of community activity including varied types of music; dramatic performances and other uses. It can benefit a wide of community groups, being as inclusive as possible - particularly underrepresented groups and spanning a wide age range.

Currently we are gathering community support for the project. We have strong interest and support from the Mole Valley District Council and have achieved planning permission and their agreement to build on the chosen site in Meadowbank Park, Dorking.

The Role:

We now need help in realising our vision! We are looking for someone who can combine a range of communications and marketing skills together with creative services and particularly, digital social media experience.
Specifically, we want the volunteer to:• Help identify media opportunities• Develop social media platforms• Help deliver greater exposure and awareness
You will make a real difference by enabling funders and supporters to see the benefits of the project to the community and the town, helping us to fund the building and subsequent running of the bandstand.

What skills do I need?

Skills and experience in social media, with familiarity with the main platforms likely to be most effective for us - Facebook, Instagram etc, as well as standard web pages.

Availability Details

• Once our social media presence is properly established, input is likely to be 1-3 hours each week. • Initial support would involve a greater input, for social media set-up of new platform(s) e.g. Instagram, and revamping of existing website and Facebook pages. Also support with an online Crowdfunding campaign. This might be 4-5 hours for a few weeks. Timings flexible and support can be done remotely. It would be good if the volunteer would attend some short meetings, either online (e.g. Zoom) or in Dorking, typically once a month.
