About Include and Stroll and Sign

Include is a charity whose aim is to improve the lives and rights of those living with a communication and other disability through services such as stroll and sign and choirs. We provide many other invaluable services to many people in Surrey whatever their ability.

Stroll and Sign is a free fortnightly session on a Saturday planned by Include.org for interest and accessibility.  Each session will encourage health, fitness and socialising in Surreys beautiful countryside.

What you will be doing.

You will be supporting Includes Stroll and Sign session leader by aiding on a 1-1 basis a visually impaired gentleman acting as a sighted guide.  You will guide them on our organised pre planned walks, navigating any hazards and communicating to them descriptions of their surroundings which will enhance their experience of nature on the walk.  You will also act as a social aid supporting their communication and interaction with other members of the group.

Volunteering on these sessions will also bring to you the beauty of the walk, the exercise and enjoyment of being outside.  This will also be a very sociable experience chatting to the other members of the session and support workers.

Travel expenses and training and support will be provided.

What skills do I need?

  • Experience as a sighted guide an advantage but not necessary as training will be given.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic attitude to help out and make a difference.
  • A love of the outdoors and be able to pass that sense on.
  • Firm but friendly approach.
  • Good social skills.
