Our daytime Drop-In is open to any adult. It particularly attracts lonely, homeless or unemployed people struggling with a range of issues. They all need a friendly face and a listening ear. It provides them with a non-judgmental environment and a community in which they can be themselves. The kitchen roles are supported by a Drop-In Leader and a Drop-In Assistant. During the week a member of staff is always on site. Roles includes:

10.45am to 3.30pm

  • Drop-In Kitchen Supervisor - prepare a hot lunch for up to 15 people with help from a Kitchen Assistant using items donated to Renewed Hope or your own.
  • Drop-In Kitchen Assistant - helping to serve meals, helping to prepare food and general kitchen duties

The Drop-In Leader manages the session, the volunteers and supports the guests while the Drop-In Assistant helps out with any necessary tasks, including making drinks and carrying out enhanced Covid-19 cleaning of tables, toilets and high traffic areas.

  • All volunteers come together at the end to clean the surfaces down ready for the following days well as preparing lunch.

What skills do I need?

Kitchen volunteers and Food Hygiene

Renewed Hope is a registered food business and all our Kitchen Supervisors and Kitchen Assistants must therefore hold a Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene certificate. We can arrange training for you if you haven't got the qualification already.

Important to all our volunteer roles is the ability to make our guests feel welcome by chatting and listening. An acceptance of people from all walks of life and circumstances is vital.

  • Friendly and non judgmental.
  • Good listener
