Position Overview:

Vital Village is seeking experienced and committed individuals to serve as Advisory Board Members.

The Advisory Board plays a vital role in guiding the organisation's strategic direction, providing expertise, and ensuring that it achieves its mission and objectives effectively.

Advisory Board Members serve as trusted advisors, offering valuable insights and guidance to support Vital Village's growth and impact.

The Chair of the Advisory Board at Vital Village plays a pivotal role in providing leadership, direction, and coordination to ensure the effective functioning of the Board and the achievement of Vital Village's mission and objectives.

The Chair serves as the primary liaison between the Advisory Board and Vital Village's executive leadership, guiding strategic decision-making, fostering collaboration, and promoting accountability.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Governance: Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the Advisory Board, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.

Ensure adherence to governance principles and ethical standards, promoting transparency and integrity in all Board activities.

Participate in board meetings, offering input on governance matters, financial oversight, and organisational policies.

Meeting Facilitation: Lead quarterly Advisory Board meetings, working with the Executive Director in setting agendas, facilitating discussions, and ensuring effective communication among Board members.

Encourage active participation, solicit diverse perspectives, and promote consensus-building to address key issues and make informed decisions.

Relationship Building: Cultivate strong relationships with Vital Village's executive leadership, staff, stakeholders, and external partners to advance the organization's goals and enhance its impact.

Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for Vital Village, promoting its mission and initiatives within the community.

Performance Evaluation: Conduct periodic evaluations of Advisory Board performance, soliciting feedback from board members, staff, and stakeholders to assess effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and enhance board governance and operations.

Strategic Guidance:. Collaborate with the Advisory Board and executive leadership to develop and implement strategic plans, goals, and priorities aligned with Vital Village's mission and vision.

Monitor progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust strategies as needed to respond to changing circumstances and emerging opportunities.

Expertise Sharing: Offer expertise and insights in relevant fields, such as healthcare, community development, education, or social services, to enhance the quality of programs and initiatives.

Advocacy: Act as ambassadors for Vital Village, advocating for its mission and work within their respective networks and communities.

Network Building: Leverage personal and professional networks to connect Vital Village with potential partners, funders, and collaborators.

Programme Evaluation: Assist in the evaluation of program effectiveness, helping to identify areas for improvement and innovative approaches.

Resource Development: Support fundraising efforts by providing advice on donor relations, grant opportunities, and sustainable financial strategies.

Mentorship and Development: Support the professional growth and development of Advisory Board Members, providing guidance, mentorship, and opportunities for leadership development.

Encourage active engagement, recognize contributions, and promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

What skills do I need?

Demonstrated commitment to Vital Village's mission and values.

Leadership skills and strategic thinker.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills, with the ability to build consensus, resolve conflicts, and inspire confidence among diverse stakeholders.

Expertise in a relevant field, such as public health, community development, social services, nonprofit management, finance, marketing, business administration etc. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders.

Capacity to commit time and effort to fulfill Advisory Board responsibilities.

A willingness to advocate for Vital Village and its initiatives within personal and professional networks.

High ethical standards and a commitment to transparency and accountability.
